Shaping Europe's creative future: developments in European cultural funding programmes

In a landscape of continuous and rapid change in the global cultural sector, European funding to support culture is becoming increasingly necessary to build spaces of “vitality”, especially in the music industry. Creative Europe, the European Commission’s programme for the cultural and creative sectors, is also open to concert halls, festivals, the third sector and all organisations that make up the music ecosystem in Europe. The calls do not support the national dimension, but offer the chance to network, exchange, internationalise, innovate – also thanks to digital – and promote artists through cooperation. Perhaps also the chance to build, as far as possible, shared responses to the challenges of the mainstream and the growing power of digital platforms.
The Creative Europe Desk Italy, coordinated by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the MiC, will present the programme’s upcoming calls, the new “GreenBeat Nexus” funding scheme for the green transition of European music, and the possible scenarios from 2028 with “Agora EU”. Every 7 years the European Programmes change shape, and from 2028 the European music ecosystem could have the chance of a “Music” strand. The final word lies with the Member States, but in the meantime it is possible to inhabit the discontinuity of funding and make it work. How? With the wonder and resistance of those who want to build networks.
